Who is Legolas?

Legolas, also known as Legolas Greenleaf, was a Sindarin Elf and a member of the Fellowship of the Ring during the Third Age. The son of King Thranduil of the Woodland Realm (Mirkwood), he was a prince, a messenger, and a master archer. With keen vision capable of seeing great distances even in darkness, sensitive hearing, an unmatched aim that never missed its target, and the ability to silently walk on grass and snow, leaving minimal traces, Legolas was an invaluable asset to the other eight members of the Fellowship. While his age was never explicitly stated, it is estimated to be between 500 and 3,000 years—a common lifespan for Elves. Despite the historic enmity between their races, Legolas forged a deep friendship with Gimli the Dwarf.
