With his first release on the Poker Flat Wax series, James Dexter drops three new mission statements from the underground, each unified by a slick production sensibility and irresistible feel for groove. "Voices" is a deep bomb - a shuffling, kinetic rhythm with oceans of space for subtle melodic elements and textures. The deep pads and detuned kick drum of "Point Blank" references Detroit's classic house sound, the raw drums and vocal snippets adding a truly basement vibe. "Area 51" is another atmospheric late-night jam, with a bumping rhythm track and subtle pad washes.
