OVER THE TOP AND BACK

Summary

A surprise sensation in America and instant hit in the UK—the autobiography of legendary singer Tom Jones, following six decades of unparalleled experiences in the spotlight.

Tom Jones, one of the most popular singers to emerge from the British invasion, rose to fame in the mid-1960s, winning a Grammy in 1965 for the second single he had ever released—“It’s Not Unusual.” This kicked off a six-decades-long career as a chart-topping musician in the UK and US alike, releasing major hits like “What’s New Pussycat,” “Delilah,” “She’s a Lady,” “Kiss,” and “Sex Bomb”—over his career he has sold over 100 million albums.

Still recording and touring today, Jones continues to be admired by his fellow musicians and to draw an ardent and ecstatic fanbase that crosses ages and gender. Born the son of a coal miner in Wales, Jones is still married to his childhood sweetheart, Linda—whom he married when they were both sixteen—whose agoraphobia has kept their home life out of the spotlight for decades. As in his more recent musical releases, such as his 2012 top ten album Spirit in the Room, in this book Jones has come into a place of reflection on his career and his journey. Honestly told, with the rich and distinctive storytelling that has made him so popular, Over the Top and Back reveals the creative and emotional life of the only musician said to rival Elvis’s crown.
